Today I was asked where I get my coupons from. The bulk of my savings comes from the Sunday Oklahoman and occasionally the Sunday Dallas Morning News. I also clip from All You Magazine and several online websites including my three favorite:
coupons.smartsource.com
http://www.mycoupons.com/
http://www.redplum.com/
If there is something in particular that I need and I cannot find a coupon for I email the company and ask for one to be mailed to me. By doing this I have received free items like Healthy Choice dinners and Advil.
I am a big try-it-before-you-buy-it type of person. I am emailed a link to free samples daily and if I like the samples I enter in my information and I will get it in the mail in a matter of days. Often, the samples will come with a coupon also. http://www.allyou.com/coupons-deals/daily-free-samples-00411000069695/ is the best daily sample link that I use.
This is the week after a holiday which means coupons are few and far between in newspapers and store specials aren't as great as they usually are - but don't worry because there are still a few really good deals out there!
Homeland in Ardmore:
Williams Chili Seasoning $1.00 - $0.75 coupon doubled = FREE
Gain Detergent, 32 loads $6.99 - $1.00 coupon doubled = $4.99
Maxwell House Coffee $2.99 - $0.75 coupon doubled = $1.49
Zone Bars are still FREE this week with the $1.00 coupon doubled
Chips A'Hoy Cookies $2.99 - $1.00 coupon doubled = $0.99
Hiland Ice Cream $2.89 - $0.40 coupon doubled = $2.09
Silk Milk $2.99 - $1.00 coupon doubled = $0.99
DayQuil or NyQuil $4.85 - $1.50 coupon = $3.35
Langers Juice $2.79 each - $1.00 off two coupon doubled = $1.79 each
Wal*Mart:
Every year Wal*Mart runs specials on Christmas gift packs that often include disposable razors, shaving cream, and deodorant in a bundle. You can usually use your regular razor coupons to purchase this bundle. So for a $9.00 bundle special and a $2.00 coupon (sometimes you luck out and find a $4.00 coupon) you are getting a heck of a deal. Speaking of deals, did you know that the $25.00 Philips Sonicare toothbrush coupon and the $10.00 Philips Norelco razor coupon works on many different models? Right now you can buy an electric toothbrush kit that has two electric toothbrushes for $25.00 and a Norelco razor that is usually $70.00 you can get for $28.00... They would make nice stocking stuffers and you will save a bundle!
Until next time - Happy Savings!

This Week at the Grocery Store
This week at the grocery store I turned in my coupons and saved big bucks, enough to actually pay for a haircut on my way home! My Mother has always done double coupons at Homeland and her house has always been stocked with cheap, or free, food. I, on the other hand, go to Wal*Mart thinking it is cheaper and end up paying over one hundred dollars on every trip I make. There comes a point in time when you find out just how much a month's worth of Wal*Mart adds up to and figure out that you can't handle it much longer. That is exactly how I have felt for the past few months. So what did I do about it you are wondering? Well, I started buying two Sunday newspapers a week and clipping coupons. I have always hated this and thought that it took up too much of my valuable time. Well, for thirty minutes worth of clipping each week this is what I saved today:
Alka Seltzer - $2.19 per box, $1.00 coupon doubled, $0.19 total cost
Scope Outlast - $2.99, $1.00 coupon doubled, $0.99 total cost
Parkay Butter - $1.00 each, $0.75 coupon doubled, FREE
Country Crock Side Dish (Garlic Mashed Potatoes) - $3.29, $1.00 coupon doubled, $1.29 total cost
Swanson Chicken Broth - $0.50 each, $0.50 off two doubled, 2 cans FREE
Reynolds Oven Bags - $1.99 each, $1.00 coupon doubled, FREE
Rhodes Rolls - $2.49, $1.00 coupon doubled, $0.49 total cost
Karo Syrup - $2.00, $0.75 coupon doubled, $0.50 total cost
Lindsey Olives - $1.00, $1.00 coupon doubled, 2 cans FREE
Imperial 4 lb. Sugar - $1.79, $0.50 coupon doubled, $0.79 total cost
Sea Salt - $2.59, $1.00 coupon doubled, $0.59 total cost
Zone Protein Bar - $1.39, $1.00 coupon doubled, FREE
Carnation Evaporated Milk - $1.00 each, $0.50 of 2 coupon doubled, $0.50 each
Ritz Crackers - $2.50, $1.00 coupon doubled, $0.50 total cost
This is not all that I bought, and I bought in two separate orders to make sure all coupons would be doubled at this particular store. An order that would have cost me $42.61 ended up costing me $11.30, tax included. I believe that this $30+ savings is well worth 30 minutes of my time, don't you?
P.S. My mother was in front of me in the grocery line and only ended up spending a dollar and some change on one of her orders...I guess I still have some learning to do!

Because My Mother Told Me So
I am new to this whole blog thing so please be patient...
Along time ago I learned the value of a dollar and I owe it all to my parents. My father worked hard for his money and my mother was careful on how to spend it - I thank them for teaching me these values (and many, many more.) In the current economy and working very few hours a week I have to be especially careful with how I spend my money and have figured out a budget goes a long way. Each week I go through the local sales papers and then through my coupons and try to find the best deals, I usually end up getting at least a few things free or for pennies. (Thank you Momma!) The only goal I have in making this blog is to pass my ideas and savings on to you, if there actually ever are any readers that is! Most of my posts will be aimed at the Southern Oklahoma Woman, but if you do not fall into this category please feel free to continue to read on....
